How it all began
Before the band: freelancers and friendship
The founding members knew each other from the same school band, though from different batches. After school they kept performing at events as freelancers — without a formal band name, but always dreaming of a band of their own.
The first big step
In 2009, the Malaysia World Band Championship inspired Amirul Mazlan to bring everyone together. With Alif Akbar and Mohd Fahmi, the group formed what would become Kuala Lumpur Pipes & Drums. They entered to mark the band's beginning, not to win — and won the very first competition they played.

Rising through competitions
That first win ignited a passion. KLPD kept refining its craft, growing its line-up and competing on bigger stages — the Kuala Lumpur Highland Games, the Jakarta Highland Games and the Singapore Pipe Band Competition — gaining experience, new members and recognition in the regional pipe band scene.

Growing the KLPD family
What started with eight players is now a band drawn from many schools, states and backgrounds across Malaysia. KLPD welcomes anyone with a passion for bagpipes and drums — many musicians who reached out have become core members. More than a band, it's a community and a family.
